Netflix Unveils Cast List of The Three-Body Problem Series-
BEIJING, October 29 (TMTPOST) — Streaming giant Netflix has announced the cast list of its The Three-Body Problem series, an adaptation of a popular Chinese sci-fi novel of the same name. Hong Kong film director and actor Derek Tsang Kwok-cheung who directed hit film Better Days will be directing the series’ first episode and the series co-producer.
The cast includes Jovan Adepo (Watchmen, When They See Us, Fences), John Bradley (Game of Thrones, Moonfall, Marry Me), Tsai Chin (Lucky Grandma, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Liam Cunningham (The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Game of Thrones, Hunger), Eiza González (Baby Driver,I Care A Lot, Ambulance), Jess Hong (Inked, The Brokenwood Mysteries), Marlo Kelly (Dare Me), Alex Sharp (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), Sea Shimooka (Pink Skies Ahead, Arrow, Berlin), Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani (The Mauritanian,fdsfds, Inventing Anna, Succession), and Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange, Nine Days, Raya and the Last Dragon).
The Three-Body Problem Netflix series was co-created by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Alexander Woo, The Terror’s co-creator and writer, serves as the series’ co-producer, screenwriter, and executive producer. The Three-Body Problem’s author Liu Cixin and translator Liu Yukun will be the Netflix series’ advisors.
However, details about the role arrangement for the cast are still unknown.
The cast list has sparked discussion among Chinese netizens, as the majority of the actors and actresses on the list are non-Asian and do not match the characters in the original sci-fi series.
The Three-Body Problem is the first volume of a long-form sci-fi trilogy written by Liu. The other two are The Dark Forest, and Death’s End. The Three-Body Problem’s English version won the 2015 Hugo Award for best novel, becoming the first Asian recipient of the world's top science fiction's prize. It was also nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Novel. The Three-Body Problem is considered a national pride for science fiction lovers in China.
The Three-Body Problem series is about humanity’s first contact with an alien civilization that lives in a system with three suns.
